Thelma is a top class production made in 2017. I will grant that my expectations were very low before watching Thelma. If a movie can keep me focused for the full movie time, that's really great. In my opinion, some of the actors roles were just a masterpieces which made an amazing impression on me. Even in the biggest and best Hollywood productions, there is the element of commercialism, that is elements that are in the film only to win favor with the mass audience.
